Bosch dishwashers are among the most common in Boston kitchens, and their error codes are fairly consistent across models. E15, E24 and E25 are the ones we see most. All three are often caused by water or debris, not failed parts. Code meanings can vary slightly by series, so check your manual if a code isn't listed here.

What do the common Bosch codes mean?
| Code | Meaning | Usually caused by | Try first |
|---|---|---|---|
| E15 | Water in the base pan (leak protection) | Leak inside the unit, foam from wrong detergent | Find the leak, then dry the base |
| E24 | Drain problem | Clogged filter, kinked hose, disposal knockout plug | Clean filter, check hose |
| E25 | Drain pump blocked | Glass, pits or debris under the pump cover | Clear the pump cover |
| E22 | Filter clogged | Dirty filter | Clean filter |
| E09 / E01 | Heating problem | Heater or control fault | Reset. Call if it returns. |
| E21 | Wash pump problem | Jammed or failed pump | Call a technician |
How do I clear an E15 code?
E15 means the float switch in the base pan has detected water. Turn the dishwasher off, find and fix the source (often a loose connection or suds from the wrong detergent), and then dry the base. Many owners tip the unit back slightly to drain the pan, but only do this if it's safe to pull the dishwasher out. If water keeps returning, there's an internal leak.
How do I clear E24 and E25?
Remove the filter and clean it. For E25, take out the small pump cover under the filter (on many models it pops off with a spoon handle) and remove anything caught underneath. Check the drain hose under the sink for kinks. If a new disposal was just installed, confirm the knockout plug was removed.
How do I reset a Bosch dishwasher?
Hold the Start or Reset button for about three seconds (it varies by model), or turn off the breaker for a few minutes. If the code returns right away, the underlying cause is still there.
Elliott's take
E25 is the most satisfying fix in this trade. Nine times out of ten, there's a piece of glass or an olive pit under that pump cover. Check it before you book.
